Plan on staying in hostels (there are hundreds throughout Australia in all the best locations) and travel around seeing our fabulous country, picking up short term work as you go. Hostels are an excellent source of new friends, travelling companions and information on places to go and available work. Unless you really want to stay in one place for a long period of time, don't worry about getting 'a job', though if you want to, there's plenty of casual and part time work available. The cost of your Work and Holiday visa is AUD$195 and they're very easy to apply for online, so keep that in mind when you look at what people like those in the other link (Bunac) will charge you (AUD$420 IIRC).
