Cecilia, I am a big fan of Australia, I am planning another trip there now, as for seeing things, it really depends on where your going. I find the best way is keep away from the touristy spots, and rough it, forget 5 star hotels. The trip I am planning is one of those tourists bus holidays it’s I think 12 nights, and we travel from Darwin to The Rock and Alice Springs, having a balloon flight breakfast. Accommodation on thew trip is tent so it is really jeans and Tshirt. I was told the best spot is the Manaranka Springs (if I spelled that right). Then From Alice Springs, I fly to Sydney, hire a car, and drive down their south coast beaches, fantastic beaches.
Hope that gave you some idea.
Chris
The Blue Mountains outside of Sydney are beautiful. Visit the Opera House in Sydney. Head to Kings Cross neighborhood for some great nightly entertainment. The Koala Park Sanctuary is fun. You can cuddle with a koala! Featherdale Wildlife Park is fantastic. You can hand feed kangaroos there. The Sydney Aquarium has a great section on the Great Barrier Reef. Go to the top of Sydney Tower for a spectacular view of the city. Walk across The Harbour Bridge. It only takes an hour and it’s so much fun.
In Melbourne, go to the top of the Rialto Towers building for a beautiful view of the city. Visit the Melbourne Aquarium, Captain Cook’s Cottage, The Melbourne Zoo, Highpoint Shopping Centre, Fitzroy Gardens, Royal Botanic Gardens, Victorian Arts Centre, Dandendong Ranges National Park (great hiking and birdwatching site), Shrine of Remembrance. Also make a special trip to Phillip Island to watch the penguin march. The penguins are adorable. In addition, drive the coast to Apollo Bay. It is a very scenic coastal drive. Nice beaches, too. Those last two attractions I mentioned are “must-sees” for Melbourne.
you make it sound so small
its HUGE
you could spend a week in sydney and not get bored.
you could do the same in any other major town.
my suggestion.
take a few months. maybe longer.
get a combi.. and drive around australia. stay in hostels, stay in back packers in.. sleep in a tent.
go to the major cities, stay in a hotel..
but yeah, as the lady said, rough it.
thats what most of australia is like except for the main cities.
check out cairns
you’ll get what i mean.
skip canberra. nothing there.
start at melbourne or something and drive your way up to the tip
feel the weather change
try and hit cairns in winter
