Port Jackson, containing Sydney Harbour, is the natural harbour of Sydney, Australia.
Sydney Harbour is known for its beauty, and in particular, as the location of the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. The harbour is also used during the New Years Eve Fireworks and the start of the Sydney to Hobart yacht race.
The discovery by Europeans of Sydney Harbour is credited to Lt James Cook in 1770, although he did not enter it. Cook named the harbour after Sir George Jackson, Judge Advocate of the Fleet at the time; he noted in his log that “there appears to be a good anchorage”. Captain Arthur Phillip established the first colony in Australia at Sydney Cove inside Port Jackson in 1788 which was to become the city of Sydney.
Darling Harbour
Darling Harbour located in the greater Sydney Harbour is an extensive area in central Sydney, located just to the west of the City, almost completely dedicated to entertainment and tourism.
For many decades the core of the working Port of Sydney, Darling Harbour was subsequently developed by the NSW State Government as a revitalization project for the Australian Bicentenary in 1988.
As a district, Darling Harbour embraces significant portions of the inner city suburbs of Ultimo (to the south) and Pyrmont (to the west).
Sydney Harbour Bridge
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is a steel arch bridge across Sydney Harbour that carries rail, vehicular, and pedestrian traffic between the Sydney central business district (CBD) and the North Shore. The dramatic view of the bridge, the harbour, and the nearby Sydney Opera House is an iconic image of both Sydney and Australia. The bridge is locally nicknamed The Coathanger because of its arch-based design, although this usage is less prevalent than it once was.

The bridge was the city’s tallest structure until 1967.[According to Guinness World Records, it is the world’s widest long-span bridge and its tallest steel arch bridge, measuring 134 metres (429.6 ft) from top to water level.[ It is also the fourth-longest spanning-arch bridge in the world.
